The rapid kinetics of adsorption and desorption on activated carbon fibers (ACF) results in sharp breakthrough curves and short mass transfer zones and facilitates the design of compact, efficient solvent recovery systems with small beds, low operating costs, and minimal degradation of recovered solvents. The nanostructure of this unconventional form of activated carbon is elucidated. Theory and data are presented as the basis for discussion, analysis, and comparison of the kinetics of adsorption/desorption on ACF as compared to granulated activated carbon (GAC).
