PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the lifetime of activated carbon by reducing the amount of chlorine remaining on the activated carbon in the case when the adsorption/desorption of a halogenated organic compound such as tetrachloroethylene is repeatedly carried out by using activated carbon.;SOLUTION: The treated activated carbon is obtained by treating activated carbon with an aqueous solution of vinyl trimethoxysilane being a silane coupling agent, and then filtering and drying the treated product. When the adsorption/desorption of tetrachloroethylene is repeatedly carried out 10 times on the treated activated carbon and untreated activated carbon, the residual amount of hydrogen chloride on the treated activated carbon is ≤1/50 times of that on the untreated activated carbon.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
