Oakland County Michigan is the home of many Fortune 500 companies. Serving the educational needs of its' 200,000+ school-age children are 28 independently operated school districts. Serving these school districts and in turn the educational needs of children, enrolled in school districts and charter schools is the intermediate school district, (ISD) Oakland Schools. Oakland Schools as an organization formally dates back to 1941. In tradition the function of the county school district comes from a much earlier time in history when county structures were the most economical approach for the provision of a host of community service. This economy of scale still pervades selection of what is or is not done by an ISD.
