This paper sets out- in a simulation environment - the capacity and coverage benefits of Node B power sharing, hereafter referred to as NBPS, in a homogeneous circuit switched UMTS network Various scenarios are investigated by considering the outage statistics and Node B power requirements. The network simulated consists of 37 3-sector sites in a macrocellular environment. The main input parameters varied to evaluate the performance include user distribution and users mix of services. The results represent the performance statistics under a steady state condition with no explicit modelling of motion. Capacity gains of up to 50% have been observed as a result of NBPS.
