As the use of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) has increased, it is necessary to understand the hemodynamic changes of LVAD in laparoscopy. The Tai-Ta LVAD (T-LVAD) has been designed and produced by our group that the animal study of calves with T-LVAD have been well performed for a while, Ten healthy dogs, each weighted 12-16 kg, were used for the study. After general anesthesia and left posterolateral thoracotomy, the inlet cannula of LVAD was inserted into left ventricle (LV) apex, and the outflow cannula was sutured on descending aorta, The hemodynamic actions of LVAD to cardiovascular system could be observed in details. After implantation of T-LVAD, the pulsatile nature of outflow matches with cardiac cycle and the centrifugal impeller pump can be used as a good assist device when cardiac function is incomplete. Due to the action of systemic systole and diastole, the outflow of LVAD appeared to be pulsatile even though the impeller pump was operated continuously.
