摘要

Principles of Wound ManagementThe chronic wound has been defined as "... a wound that has failed to proceed through the repair process without establishing a sustained anatomical result"1. These problematic wounds include but are not limited to diabetic, venous, pressure, arterial and post-surgical etiologies. Although a specific time defining when a wound becomes chronic has not been established, any delay in closure may lead to further complications. Infection, wound deterioration and the effect on quality of life all may have a significantly negative impact on the outcome and cost of care.Regardless on the clinician's medical specialty, any provider of care to patients with chronic wounds needs to be familiar with the basic and general principals of wound management. The following manuscript reviews six major principles for approaching problematic wounds., Adherence to these principles will assist with the determination, administration and optimization of treatment plans.
