A retrospective study of PRRS diagnostic results from routine serologic testing of seven PRRS naive herds

The IDEXX HerdCheck PRRS ELISA~(R) is the most widely used serologic assay in North America for the detection of antibodies against both the North American and European strains of PRRSV. The reported test specificity is above 96% and a very small percentage of false positive results can be expected when relying on this test alone. This occurrence of false positive reactors complicates the serologic monitoring of herds considered PRRS nai've. To describe the expected proportion of samples considered false positive reactors and the range of expected ELISA S/P values detected, we studied 7 herds (10 farms) considered PRRS naive.
