Efficacy, safety and serological cross-reactivity of Fort Dodge Animal Healths swine influenza vaccine

Swine influenza is an acute, febrile, respiratory disease of swine with high morbidity and low mortality. Until recently, swine influenza in the United States was thought to be caused by Influenza Virus type A, sero-type H1N1. In 1998 a different strain of swine influenza virus (SIV), H3N2, was detected in North Carolina, Texas, Iowa, and Minnesota among pigs vaccinated with the SIV serotype H1N1 vaccine. Additionally, a new H1N2 serotype of SIV, thought to be the reassortment of H3N2 and H1N1 serotypes, was recently isolated in the United States swine population.
