Customisable training materials on web and in printed format

Publishing and production of textbooks is a very important business area both for the publishers and printers. The educational principles are, however, changing. On the one hand team work and collaboration are emphasized and on the other hand the requirements of an individual trainee should be taken into account. The materials should continuously be updated. This leads to a need to select and compile training material for the exact needs of individual traineers. This paper discribes the development work done to build a system that supports distributed creation, management, updating and use of different types of training materials both on the web and/or in printed formats. Creating content for training digital printing technology is the case application. Latest recommendations and reference models like SCORM and tools like XML are applied. The authoring process for different channels will be discussed and new challenges for publishers reviewed.
