The dicovery of the first opioid peptides in 1975 offered great possibilities for the investigation of ligand-receptor interactions.The simple stucture of enkephalins made easy the determination of structure-activity relationships,and soon,by the synthesis of numerous analogs the structural parts of the opioid peptides responsible for the biological activity and receptor selectivity could be established.
