Bacterial DNA gyrase is a type II topoisomerase able to introduce negative supercoils into covalently closed-circular DNA [1],using the free energy released by ATP hydrolysis.The Escherichia coli enzyme has been extensiveluy studied and consists of two A and two B subunits whose active form is an A_2B_2 complex.
