摘要

A compulational fluid dynamics (CFD) based optimization procedure is used to study the rig of the modern clipper ship the Maltese Falcon. We optimize the sheeting angle and camber of the yards of two-dimensional cross sections of the rig. A gradient-based cost function minimization algorithm and an optimization algorithm based on Evolutionary Strategies (ES) are combined with a RANS CFD model to perform the optimization. Results for optimizing the sheeting angles of 12 percent camber circular sections are presented as well as results for optimizing both the sheeting angle and the camber.
