PREVALENCE OF OESOPHAGOGASTRIC LESIONS AT SLAUGHTER IN SPANISH SOUTHEAST AND INFLUENCE OF OPERATION SIZE ON THEIR DEVELOPMENT

Oesophagogastric ulcer in pigs is an universal disease, recognized since XIX century, with a prevalence increasing during last 50 years in all countries with industrial pig production. The etiology still has not been completely understood, but appearsclearly as a multifactorial disease, with a very wide range of factor influencing on the establishment and severity of lesions. Instead a low mortality, this condition could produce severe economical losses (6).Previously had been reported the influence of the operation size on gastric ulcers development, so our objective is to assess this influence, studying the animals slaughtered in the main pig abattoir of the Spanish southeast.
