One of the key issues of sustainable settlement development is to stop the ongoing consumption of open space for settlement and traffic purposes. The "Information System Sustainable Settlement Development" (IS3D), a decision support system, combines objectives and indicators, that operationalise a sustainable settlement development, with modern GIS-based analysis functions in order to provide spatially small-scaled information on the land-use change. Two applications have been developed to support typical tasks in different phases of the spatial planning process in urban areas.
