Protocol conversion by automatic pattern matching for the on-line linkage between multi-institutional radiation oncology databases

We developed method of collecting clinical records of radiotherapy for ROGAD (Radiation Oncology Greater Area Database) which is a multi-institutional type database developed for the purpose of grasping the actual situation of the radiotherapy in Japan and aiming at improvement of results of radiotherapy. The method employs a data import system which convert automatically clinical records of different protocol to those of ROGAD protocol by using the Internet and by taking advantage of its higher interactivity. Also improvement in data link efficiency was aimed at. By comparing contents of registrated data in a facility with those of ROGAD and by recognizing pattern of the histogram of registrated data, we create a code conversion table automatically. In this way, we convert clinical records of protocol in existed database in a facility into data of ROGAD protocol by employing the conversion table. This system is expected to be a method for mutual on-line linkages between plural number of radiation oncology databases.
