In this study, the nanocomposite coatings were prepared by incorporating zinc ferrite nanoparticles in polyester-melamine (P/M) coating using mechanical agitation and sonication process. The synthesis and effect of zinc ferrite nanoparticles on the corrosion performance of polyester-melamine nanocomposite coatings have been reported. The fabrication of ferrite nanoparticles has been intensively investigated in recent years due to their unique physical and mechanical properties, as well as technological applications. Zinc ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized by sol-gel method and investigated by XRD, FT-IR and SEM techniques. The nanocomposite coatings were prepared by dispersion of 0.5% w/w of zinc-ferrite nanoparticles in the polyester-melamine (PM) coating. The structure of nanocomposite coatings has been investigated by wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)techniques. Also, the surface morphology of the PM/zinc-ferrite nanocomposite coatings were investigated using SEM. The corrosion performance of the PM nanocomposite coatings were investigated by Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and salt spray test measurements. The corrosion percentage of samples after exposure to salt spray test were performed using photoshop software. The experimental results showed that observable enhanced mechanical and corrosion performance of PM/zinc-ferrite nanocomposite coatings in comparison with neat PM coating.
