Zn was doped into hydroxyapatite by sintering a powder mixture of HAp and ZnO (3~10 wt.%ZnO) at high temperature. It was found from the results of X-ray diffraction that the diffraction peaks of ZnO disappeared after sintering. With Zn doped HAp obtained, the preparation of Zn doped HAp plasma spray biocompatible coating on Ti has been carried out. The long-term credibility of Zn doped HAp plasma spray biocompatible coatings was evaluated by electrochemical impedance measurements in physiological saline. It was found that Zn doped Hap plasma spray biocompatible coating has the same corrosion resistance as that of pure HAp plasma spray coatings. Also, the dissolution of Zn~(2+) ion from Zn doped HAp was detected by ICP analysis after a long-term immersion in physiological saline.
