The Yaha Gas Field is a condensate gas reservoir located in the Tarim basin in the northwestern China that began production in 2000. The Yaha Gas Field is the main source gas reservoir of the West to East Gas Pipeline Project. The gas produced by the field contains about 0.7-1.3 volume percent CO_2 and the production water can contain as much as 116, 000 ppm chlorides. Initially, the 16Mn (C-Mn steel) steel was adopted to construct the pipelines; by May of 2006, there were as many fifty failures. The investigation that were conducted in simulated flowline internal service conditions found the high corrosion rate was due to the multiphase flow induced erosion and CO_2 corrosion. The use of solid corrosion resistant alloys (CRA's) for the construction of pipelines is very expensive; however, the use of internally lined pipe is a potential solution. In this paper, the outcome of a comprehensive program of work to establish the suitability and performance of the lined pipe for gathering lines in Yaha Gas Field is presented. The selection of CRA's as the inner material, and evaluation the corrosion resistance of girth weld of the lined pipe by systematic determination of general corrosion, pitting corrosion resistance are described.
