The DVR90 is the first one of the coming new national height systems of the Nordic countries. It is a non-tidal Helmert height system practically referring the mean crust to the mean sea level in Danish waters. The article is focusing on some general aspects related to the determination of a non-tidal height system. Preceding an overview on the most common gravitational and tidal corrections in leveling the astronomical correction is treated more thoroughly. A brief presentation of the Danish third precise leveling is followed by a detailed description of the computation of the DVR90. Finally, the impact of the corrections applied is indicated and numerical values are given.
