The museum was first settled into the Medical Association of Santiago de Compostela. It was opened on 31 October 1981, in the presence of distinguished professionals from all over Spain.Afterwards, the Spanish Society of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine, at the Ordinary National Assembly that took place that same year at the General Council of Medical Associations in Madrid, decided to nominate the Museum of Anaesthesia as "NATIONAL MUSEUM". Since then, the museum has received economic support from the Spanish Society of Anaesthesia in order to cover expenses derived from its maintenance. The Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine Museum has been growing thanks to contributions of equipment, photographs and film material, drugs and books related to anaesthesia that come from all over Spain as well as from other parts of the world.
