摘要

The aim of this paper is to investigate kinematic effects due to inelastic interaction phenomena between axial and lateral forces in steel columns. It is shown that, as column experiences inelasticity, axial force due to gravity loads and cyclic horizontal forces interact, leading to development of significant vertical displacements. Namely, it is demonstrated that plastic deformations in the vertical direction can govern the column plastic behaviour, depending upon the level of constant axial force. When considering vertical earthquake component in addition to the horizontal ones, the column inelastic response does not vary significantly. These behavioural trends are confirmed in the context of plane frames.
