In this paper, based on the L{sub}2 anti-windup scheme introduced in (Teel and Kapoor, 1997) we provide an LMI formulation of an optimal anti-windup compensation design. The employment of LMIs for the anti-windup design allows to determine global minima via convex optimization. Moreover, based on sector narrowing techniques for the saturation function, a nonlinear scheduled controller is proposed. The effectiveness and robustness of the nonlinear anti-windup design is successfully tested by simulation on a model of a damped mass-spring system that presents a severe and hard to solve windup effect.
