A retrospective cohort study on the risk factors for non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM) in Korea

During the last decades, the prevalence of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) increased worldwide and the disease has become one of the major public health problems in Korea [1]. It affects about 7.2% of Korean adults over 30 years of age [2,3]. Several Korean papers reported that natural history of diabetes in Korea seems to be quite different from that observed in western countries [4,5] In this regard, we conducted a retrospective cohort study to determine the risk of NIDDM among Korean adults.
