Alkali-aggregate reaction can result in the serious destruction to concrete, so every country limits the content of alkali introduced into concrete. The admixtures with alkali-free or low-alkali content can be used as much as possible in concrete because of the promotive effect of the alkali in admixtures on the alkali-aggregate reaction in concrete, while this effect can be reduced due to the lower alkali-content of the lowalkali admixtures. In addition, it is found that the expansion caused by the alkali-silicate reaction can be inhibited apparently by adding lithium compounds into concrete.
