Diffusion tests and batch-tests on a soft low permeability organic mangrove clay samples using leachate of the Gramacho M.S.W Landfill were done. The soil was sampled in the lateral trench, which was introduced to minimize leachate flow. Chloride, sodium, potassium and ammonium were the ions researched, and the software POLLUTE was used for interpretation of experimental results. A sodium dessorption was observed, while for ammonium a smaller sorption capacity than potassium was defined in absolute terms. Chloride and sodium effective diffusion coefficients were in a similar magnitude. Potassium and ammonium reactive ions also present similar effective diffusion, but significantly higher than chloride and sodium.
