Fundamental Consideration on Design of Restrictor for Hydrostatic Bearing

Design of a capillary-type restrictor of hydrostatic bearing is studied. In particular, the pressure-losses at the inlet and outlet of restrictor are considered in the design. Then optimum condition of recess pressure maximizing the bearing stiffness is investigated. Design example of a water hydrostatic bearing with a simple opposed-pad bearing is presented.
