Due to their inherent coupled elecomechanical behavior, the piezocomposite-laminated plates (PLP) have been extensively used in the smart structures and devices such as transducers, sensors and actuators. Some piezocomposite-laminated plates may sustain higher electric loads without breakdown, but are most likely to delaminate on the interface between layers and then form coin-shape damage (CSD) or crack. Without doubt, the interface CSD in the PLP will degrade the electric performance and affect their vibration characteristic. Health monitoring of some special smart structures designed to carry higher mechanical load is crying out for a better understanding to the effects of damages on the vibration characters of the PLP. In the present paper, detailed three-dimension transient state finite element analyses on the PLP containing an interface CSD have been performed to study vibration characteristic of PLP. The emphases are mainly fastened on the influences of CSD on the mode and frequency responses of the PLP. By comparison with the vibration behavior of corresponding perfect PLP, significant effects of the interface CSD on the vibration frequency and mode of PLP are revealed. These interesting results may afford powerful theoretic support for the health monitoring of smart structures.
