A grain producer's livelihood is his or her crop. While growing grain is challenging, selling it is even more taxing. A vast majority of grain producers say they lack confidence in their ability to sell their crops for the highest net farm price, andare looking for new alternatives to market their grain. The marketplace for selling and buying grain has a history of inefficiencies that cause a grain producer various obstacles. In this marketplace, demand is geographically dispersed and fragmented. Asa result, those grain producers who take the time to search for the best bid, often spend an inordinate amount of time calling potential buyers when time could be better spent on other farming activities. Finally, this process is intensely paper- and phone-based and requires an actual signature, which means time to execute legally binding contracts.
