This paper describes a simple method of adding boron nitride powder to increase the thermal conductivity of a composite laminate for thermal management applications. The addition of approximately 10% boron nitride powder to a laminate increased the thermal conductivity by a factor of three compared to an unloaded laminate. The stiffness increased but the tensile, bending and shear strength decreased. This paper will present measured thermal and mechanical properties and describe on going work in this area.
