The reliability of gas transmission systems, along with the efficient cathodic protection, is defined by the presence of a diagnostic system for corrosion processes and cathodic protection means parameters. The results of long-term investigations of gas transmission systems with use of equipment produced by Linalog (USA), Hagenuk (Germany), Surveyor (UK) and other companies showed that for diagnostics, prediction of corrosion and gas pipelines protection, pipelines should be equipped with devices capable to encompass the whole spectrum of controlled parameters, a monitoring system should be created, along with a telecontrol system of cathodic protection means, complete with indicators of current, voltage, polarization potential, corrosion and crack formation rate, condition of insulation coating, temperature of tube body, specific soil resistance etc.
