An integrated ingress-of-coolant event (ICE) test facility was constructed to investigate two-phase flow behavior in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) during an ICE event. The integrated ICE test facility corresponds to approximately 1/1600 of the ITER volume. Objectives of the integrated ICE tests are to clarify the adequacy of the ITER safety design approach and design parameters and to investigate pressure rise, boiling and condensation characteristics at the ICE events. It was clarified quantitatively from this study that the pressure suppression system in ITER is very effective to reduce the pressure rise during the ICE events. Numerical analyses with TRAC-PF1 code were carried out. Analytical results were in good agreement with the experimental results.
