Heat transfer characteristics of a parallel looped thermosyphon are compared to those of a conventional thermosyphon. Experiments use ethanol and water as a working fluid. The comparisons indicate the following findings: Heat transfer coefficients in evaporator and condenser sections are similar between them. The parallel type obtains more uniform wall temperature except under a low charge ratio condition and by about three times larger maximum heat flux than the other on a condition without a noncondensable gas. But including the gas, the maximum heat flux of the parallel type is much lower than that of the conventional one.
