An optimum design tool for a compact heat exchanger that uses only small diameter tubes has been developed, and the performance of the present design was compared with commercial compact heat exchanger. For all cases examined, the present heat exchanger without any extended surface has a significant advantage in the pumping power, the heat exchange, or the core volume. The range of optimum tube diameter is found to be 0.3-0.5 mm.
