THE ANATOMICAL AND HISTOLOGICAL STUDY ON ACUPOINTS AND MERIDIANS (SUPERFICIAL BONGHAN CORPUSCLES AND DUCTS)

In traditional oriental medicine, meridians are the circulation path of Qi, and mediate the therapeutic effects of acupuncture1. There have been several studies on the anatomical basis of acupuncture points and meridians2"4, and among them the reportby Dr. Bonghan Kim5 in 1963 from which arose most controversial discussions6: He showed that there existed unique anatomical structures corresponding to the classical acupoints and meridians - superficial Bonghan (BH) corpuscles and ducts2'5. The goal of this study was aimed to confirm these BH corpuscles and ducts in skin corresponding to classical acupoints.
