A TALE OF TWO CABINS: WEATHERIZATION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HISTORIC SLEEPER CABINS AT SILVER FALLS STATE PARK

The goal of this project was to extend the period of use for historic sleeper cabins (Fig. 1) at Oregon's Silver Falls State Park. Three weatherization strategies were compared to the as is, or "Base Case", condition of the existing cabins. The strategy of "Glazing Only" was recommended over the other two strategies ("Glazing and Sealing" and "Glazing, Sealing, and Insulating") because it provided the largest increase in the period of use (increasing the use from 3 months to 6 months) at the least cost (approximately $16,000), with the least damage to the historic fabric of the sleeper cabins.
