In this work infrared temperature measurements were used to show that it was possible to decrease the surface temperatures in dry grinding by increasing the Peclet Number for a given MRR. Therefore to reduce the temperatures in grinding, higher workpiece speeds with lower depths of cut should be used. In addition a process selection map based on the MRR and the Peclet Number was created that showed a distinct burn limit that could be used to optimize process parameters.
