With the adoption of the California ZEV requirements by New York State, electric vehicles will be sold in the State and in the City. Over the last 4 years there have been a number of programs that have been initiated to ease the way for future electric vehicles in greater volumes. New York State and NY City's program has differed greatly from the private fleets focus found in California or Arizona. (The Auto manufacturers who made vehicle available mostly to government entities reinforced this). Instead the City has focused on fleet applications for EV's and the development of incentives to increase the use of EV's in public and private fleets. This paper focuses on 7 discreet programs * Municipal Electric Vehicle Program * Electric Delivery vehicle loaner Program * "Think" station Car Program * Electric Bus demonstration * Private fleet assistance program * Clean Air Communities/truck stop electrification * State Tax credit development Conclusions -NY City and State need to rapidly increase their efforts to increase the acceptance of electric vehicles in specific applications in NY State. This must include increased visibility of program to prepare the public for the influx of clean vehicles heading our way. Current locally based programs are diverse and do make a difference in the early introduction of clean vehicle technologies.
