The paper examines the effect of measured imperfections on the buckling and postbuckling response characteristics of circular cylinders constructed of four distinct circumferential segments. Two cylinder specimens were constructed and the actual geometries measured. STAGS finite-element models of the cylinders were developed to reflect the actual measured imperfect geometries as well as the ideal perfect geometries. The loading considered was axial end-shortening into the postbuckling range. Numerical results are presented in terms of tabular data, load end-shortening relationships, and spectrum plots for radial displacements superimposed on the deformed meshes of the cylinder models. The results show that the measured imperfections have an influence on the postbuckling response of the axially-stiff cylinder, but not the circumferentially-stiff one.
