The engine has a cylindrical casing with inlet ports and discharge ports. An internal projection fits against an oscillating output shaft and divides the cylinder interior into two working spaces. The shaft has transverse curved passages through it and carries extended curved arms which form the pistons. Each piston divides each working space into two parts which vary in volume as the piston oscillates with the shaft and are connected at the correct parts of the cycle by the transfer ports formed by the passages in the shaft. Each cylinder contains a sparking plug. The oscillating shaft projects through one one face and the oscillating movement is converted into a continuous rotation by a rotary crank mechanism.
