Teaching students has changed strongly during the last few years. In contrast to the classic front-of-class teaching, dialog with students, supporting students' activities and guiding self-organization become more and more important in modern teaching methods. Student initiatives should be supported by offering multimedia elements for learning and communication. Further didactical and media pedagogical understanding has led to an increased use of multimedia tools in the field of teaching at universities [1][2]. Introducing modern media to university lectures will not only raise their attractivity hut important aspects, like learning behaviour, thinking processes and learning psychological methods can be easily taken into account [3][4] The course of machine elements belongs to the curriculum of preliminary studies in mechanical engineering. The central idea is to develop appropriate structured and interchangeable multimedia modules for machine elements so that complex technical facts and correlations will become transparent. Classical media in lectures will be supplemented, self-determinated learning in a "learning workshop" will be supported, efficiency and assimilation will be increased and creativity potentials will be revealed.
