In the process of electrochemical reaction, the electrode diffusion layer forms in the electrolyte solution near the electrode due to the slow mass transport of electrolyte. The species including its concentration in the electrode diffusion layer are different with bulk solution. It is very necessary to observe concentration distribution in electrode diffusion layer in the research on electrochemical kinetics and thermodynamics. There were some methods applied to concentration observation and distribution in electrode diffusion layer, such as chemical analysis of resolving diffusion layer solution after fast freezing bulk electrolyte, spectrometry and microelectrode probe with their own features and applications to electrochemistry. However, it is hard to determine each species by applying these methods.
