The zinc-manganese alloy system has been investigated as a candidate for the formation of compositionally modulated (layered) electrodeposits. Coatings have been produced on steel substrates using pulse current waveforms of varying peak values and duty cycles. Electrodeposits were characterised using scanning electron microscopy and were evaluated in terms of their corrosion protection using DC electrochemical methods and neutral salt fog tests.
