AN ENGINEERING APPROACH FOR PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT OF DISABLED WORKERS IN THE SCOPE OF TPM SCHEME

This paper discusses an approach for empowerment of disabled workers' productivity by integrating technologies for disabled workers with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), of which feature as a continuous improvement scheme is summarized in terms of three aspects, i.e. organizational drivers, constitutional concept and improvement tools and/or technologies. Technological inquiry was performed through analyzing cases of various shop floor operations involving disabled workers, which were awarded by Japan Association for Employment of Persons with Disabilities (JAED) for their excellent activities of improvement. From this investigation, it is stressed that TPM could be a relevant management scheme for productive involvement of disabled workers in actual business scene.
