In this paper a new thermal image fault detection technique called Codeword-Based Comparison Technique (CBCT) is presented. First, a normal reference thermal image denoted as gold' thermal image it compressed into codebook, and then each block in thermal image of the Board Under Test (BUT) is compared with its corresponding codeword. Since each block is represented as the codeword in the codebook during the encoding phase, every codeword can be compared accordingly with each specific block in BUT. The algorithm is thus highly structured into modules, hardware independent, and easy to work. The experimental results demonstrate that the performances of the proposed method are satisfactory.
