To serve the continuously increasing ferry sizes, it is necessary to establish ferry jetties in deep waters. Hence, it may prove beneficial to use floating jetty structures. The ferry connection across the Sogne-fjord in western Norway is a typical example of this situation and accordingly a floating jetty is assessed at Lavik (on the northern side of the fjord) where the water depth is approximately 50 m. The required jetty length is approximately 100 m, thus being able to serve two 150-cars ferries simultaneously. Significant factors governing the design are land connection, anchoring, wind, wave height and tidal water variations. The structure selected is based on a concrete structure with box cross section.
