The performance of deep oxidation of methanol on 0. 1 % Pd catalyst supported on alumina was examined by a chromatograph-micro-reactor. The research results showed that the addition of La into γ-AI_2O_3 support could affect greatly the performance of Pd catalyst. In the presence of CO, La could lower light-off temperature, decrease the amount of CO adsorption, and weaken evidently "CO intervention" in the oxidation of methanol. By XPS techniques and in-situ FT-IR, it was shown that La could modify the electronic structure of Pd, and changed the adsorbed species and the mechanisms of methanol deep oxidation on Pd catalysts.
