A typical spectral profile of the femtosecond Cr: LiSAF laser is shown in Fig. 2. The spectral bandwidth (FWHM) was 1.87 nm neglecting a center dip and increased by 20 % compared with that of the 10-fs Cr:LiSAF laser, which makes us expect the production of sub-10-fs pulses. Figure 3 shows the intensity and phase of the Fourier-transform-limited pulse calculated from the spectrum in Fig. 2. Its pulse duration is 8.1 fs. The measurement of autocorrelation trace is in progress.
