Hierarchical data structures provide 3-D objects with mesh descriptions of multiple levels of accuracy. In the paper, we present a new kind of multiresolution vertex structures for achieving smooth transitions of levels of detail (LODs) of the meshes. Not only does it allow an efficient, task-oriented meshing for a single object, but it also offers a powerful means for modeling a multi-object environment. We have used the data structures to several gaze-guided LOD control applications, and the results show that they are practically effective even for a large real dataset.
