Osteoarthritis is a common syndrome having multiple etiologies and characterized by pathologic change of the synovial or diarthrodial joint accompanied by clinical signs of pain and disability. It is a complex condition with a multitude of interactingbiochemical and biomechanical factors. Osteoarthritis has been estimated to affect as much as 20 percent of dogs over one year of age. There have been few controlled studies evaluating nutrition and arthritis in dogs. The studies are briefly abstractedhere.
