Growth is a sign of health in living beings of all kinds. This principle applies to one-celled plants and animals, as well as to more complex organisms. It also applies to human relationships of all kinds, both personal and professional. Even the bestof relationships can become better, giving greater rewards and satisfaction to the individuals involved. It is the purpose of this paper to present some ways of promoting the growth of the relationships hi a veterinary practice team by focusing on the communication that facilitates such growth. This discussion will include: how to create an environment that fosters the growth and development of interpersonal relationships, how to set the boundaries and limits that establish the structure that supportsthe work effort, how to use the "B.R.A.V.E.R. Principle" to give team members what they most need for top performance, and how to bring out the best in people through encouragement. As in the performance of a musical piece, it requires structure, a nurturing environment, individual effort, and practice to produce the kind of teamwork that results in blended harmony--in the end, a creation much greater than the sum of its individual voices. This can be equally true of musical, dance, dramatic or athletic teams -- as well as in veterinary practices.
